Celebrating the Life of Dr. Susan Dollar

December 19, 1959 - December 20, 2021

A memorial service was held at FPC Natchitoches on June 4, 2022 to commemorate the life and works of Dr. Susan Dollar.

Susan passed away last December following a lengthy illness. The daughter of Jim and Katheryne Dollar, Susan was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Diane Dollar Harris of Monroe, and is survived by Jim and Judy Dollar of Indian Land, SC, David and Kathy Dollar of Natchitoches, and Ellen Dollar and Dr. George Conklin of Austin, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews scattered across the county.

Prior to her retirement from NSU, she shared a lifelong love of teaching History and countless horribly corny jokes, and that love was returned by many students and friends over her entire career. In addition to teaching, she traveled the paths of the Underground Railroad and Freedman Bureau Schools…worked with APHN, the National Park Service, the Creole Heritage Center, the Cane River National Heritage Area, the Natchitoches Genealogy Association, and other professional organizations. She used her knowledge and love of History in hands on research, service, and love of what she did.

Susan was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, Natchitoches.
