First Presbyterian Church of Natchitoches
(Adopted by the Session, September 18, 2011)
Called as individuals to be a community, we are created by God.,
Saved by Jesus Christ, and Led by the Holy Spirit to serve in
this place, at this time. The Church Office has a new email address. It
is “officefpcn@gmail.com”. The old email account was rendered
useless by a bogus email. Please make appropriate changes in your
address book.
First Sunday Lunch resumes on February 5,
with the annual Souper Bowl of Caring. The meal will be a
tasting of soups cooked by our experts in soup-making. Bread and
crackers will complement the soups. Trish Chaney and Elaine Miller were welcomed
into the membership of our church on January 22. Trish and Elaine
and hard and enthusiastic workers committed to service in the church.
We welcome them with open arms into our fellowship. From Garrett and
Anastasia Watson

Presbyterian Women will meet for a spring projects
planning meeting on Monday, February 20, at 10:00 am in Dugdale Hall.
The coordinating team will discuss where treasury money will be spent
and any spring project ideas. Anyone who is interested is invited to
come for coffee and cake. An ongoing project of the PW in our church and
of many churches in the Pines Presbytery is the Haiti Education Fund.
Founded over thirty years ago by El Dorado Presbyterians Frances Landers
and her husband, Gardner, the project continues to work closely with the
Anglican Church of Haiti to provide education to thousands of children
and young adults in Haiti’s southwestern mountain region. Some of the
HEF schools were impacted by the earthquake of 2010 but have since been
repaired or rebuilt to continue the educational mission of the
foundation. More information about the foundation is available on its
website at haitifoundation.org. Other organizations the Natchitoches PW group has
supported are Cane River Children’s Services and the Vera Lloyd Home in
Arkansas. The coordinating team (Chris, Donna, Marilyn, Peggy and Linda)
invite anyone interested to come for coffee and cake to discuss ideas
for the group to assist with funds, helping hands, or any other support
needed.

Our Book of Order calls for men and women to be elected to serve the
congregation as ruling elders. These folks are elected, ordained,
and installed to a ministry of discernment and governance. Because
we do not have a board of deacons, ruling elders in this congregation
are also called to a ministry of compassion and service. To
that end, each ruling has a group of both members and regular attendees
that they are responsible for. Their call is to pray for each
member of their group on a regular basis, to be conduits of information
about events and needs in the life of the congregation, and to send
cards when called for.
So, you’ve been hearing about “New Beginnings” for several months and
now you are invited to participate in the assessment process which will
take place on Monday, February 6.
Carla Gorrell, from National Capital Presbytery will be our assessor.
She will meet with Elder Peggy Gilbert to do an inside and outside
review of church property; Elder Mary Lou Brown and Ed Evans, church
treasurers, to review our finances; Elder Susan Dollar will take her on
a windshield tour of the community; we will share a dinner with the
pastor, clerk of session and a few other key elders, and then at 7:00
p.m. you are invited an Appreciative Inquiry session.
Appreciative Inquiry is about the coevolutionary search for the best in
people, their organizations, and the relevant world around them. In its
broadest focus, it involves systematic discovery of what gives “life” to
a living system when it is most alive, most effective, and most
constructively capable in economic, ecological, and human terms. AI
involves, in a central way, the art and practice of asking questions
that strengthen a system’s capacity to apprehend, anticipate, and
heighten positive potential.

Cooperrider and Diana Whitney.
Your Session Elder Care person will be giving you a personal call, reminding you of this important gathering and helping to arrange for transportation, if need be. We hope that you will attend and share your opinions and hopes and dreams for First Presbyterian Church, Natchitoches.
Join us on Ash Wednesday, February 22, for Beloved
Dust to Dust. This year’s service will be a bit different than in years
past. It will be a time of contemplation, reflection, and interactive
activities designed to get us ready for our Lenten journey. The
service begins in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m
